EA Partners with TX School for the Deaf
Ecology Action recently partnered with the Texas School for the Deaf on a pilot program for 'Green Jobs' training with deaf and hard of hearing youth. The program began in late winter and ended in the spring of 2009. The youth (aged 14-20) were able to get practical hands-on training while learning about many aspects of collecting and processing recyclable materials.
It was an amazing experience for all involved. The kids really shined and we, the staff, thoroughly enjoyed working with them and the enthusiasm that they brought to our center. The students came two days a week for a semester to the center and ‘dug in’ with the staff to get the work done.
The pilot program was such a success with the students that it will continue in the fall semester. We look forward to continuing the program and sharing the skills with all the excited kids! We salute the Texas School For the Deaf and are proud to work with them on this exciting program.
