Country Fair in the City

Come join us this Father's Day for a country fair themed party in downtown
Austin! There will be carnival games and prizes, beer and fair food, live
music, face painting, great activities for kids, and a city-wide chicken show.
For those who want to make their homes more eco-friendly, we'll have info and
supplies for urban gardening, rainwater collection, worm composting, and urban
chicken keeping.

City announces SWS 'reorganization' – Rhodes to head 'Code Compliance'

When Wells "Hustler" Dunbar left on vacation last week, he confidently assured us that with the city elections concluded and City Council not meeting this week, there would be little breaking news from City Hall.

Ha.

Ecology Action recently partnered with the Texas School for the Deaf on a pilot program for 'Green Jobs' training with deaf and hard of hearing youth. The program began in late winter and ended in the spring of 2009. The youth (aged 14-20) were able to get practical hands-on training while learning about many aspects of collecting and processing recyclable materials.

Ecology Action staff marched with workers, mothers, and immigrants to celebrate International Workers' Day. Ecology Action is self-organized as a workers' collective. We strive to have equitable, fair, and democratic decision-making and personnel policies that all participate in and agree to. Yet, we know that many workers lack even the minimum of labor protections, and worse face abuse at the workplace. EA also works to stand in solidarity with such workers.

EA attended PeopleFund's annual East Night-a celebration of local businesses on the East Side. PeopleFund is a community lender who strives to promote lasting economic vitality for low-income people by implementing strategies that create jobs, provide safe and affordable homes, and promote good economic policy decisions for communities. Ecology Action is a PeopleFund client.
