At Ecology Action of Texas, our mission is to educate and empower people to create a healthier environment.

Ecology Action has been at the forefront of waste diversion and conservation efforts since it's founding in 1969, from creating Austin's first recycling program, to our current work of recycling the landfill itself! In 2015 we closed our downtown recycling center to focus our efforts at Circle Acres, where we are transforming a former landfill into a nature preserve to be enjoyed by all. Through tours, events, volunteer days, summer camps, and field trips, we engage our community in landfill diversion and remediation, towards a vision of a zero waste world.

More about Circle Acres Nature Preserve:

A 10 acre site of wetland, forest, and grassland within the neighborhood of Montopolis, Circle Acres is an important part of the Colorado River Watershed ecosystem, and a habitat for over 150 bird species along with deer, turtles, and other wildlife.

This site has suffered a series of destructive uses: overfarming by early European settlers, quarrying, landfill, and illegal dumping site. It has been restored through the efforts of several organizations (including the Rhizome Collective and Ecology Action) hundreds of volunteer hours, and the regenerative power of nature. Ecology Action continues this restoration and preservation work through ongoing litter abatement, advocacy, and bioremediation

Circle Acres is open to our Montopolis neighbors, and the general public, from dawn to dusk.
