At Ecology Action of Texas, our mission is to educate and empower people to create a healthier environment.

Ecology Action has been at the forefront of waste diversion and conservation efforts since it's founding in 1969, from creating Austin's first recycling program, to our current work of recycling the landfill itself! In 2015 we closed our downtown recycling center to focus our efforts at Circle Acres, where we are transforming a former landfill into a nature preserve to be enjoyed by all. Through tours, events, volunteer days, summer camps, and field trips, we engage our community in landfill diversion and remediation, towards a vision of a zero waste world.

Volunteer Morning at Circle Acres

Circle Acres  is a 10 acre nature preserve and green infrastructure demonstration site. Ecology Action is working to clean and protect the land here, which has suffered decades of destructive uses as a quarry, landfill and illegal dumping site - but is now becoming a beautiful natural resource for the surrounding Montopolis neighborhood, and all of Austin!

Volunteer days involve maintaining walking trails, removing litter,  and making green infrastructure improvements to storm-water access points like culverts and tributary breaches.

Bring water and dress for the weather with sturdy, closed-toe shoes. We recommend lightweight but long sleeve and pants for the summer.

Entrances to Circle Acres are located off of Grove Boulevard (just before the entrance to Roy G. Guerrero Park) & 420 Kemp Street (look for the big concrete letters) in the Montopolis neighborhood. Please park in the parking lot at Roy G. or on Kemp Street.

RSVP to sign up and  receive inclement weather updates, and let us know if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!
